I finally found out after a month of an endless ear infection why it wouldnt clear up. After having been on fluids all day after becoming dehydrated on an antibiodics, my kitty was looking way better. I was so happy and felt a wave of uplift… then the vet called and told me that she tested positive. She said it is carried in three ways but isn’t sure how severe it is until she tests the bone marrow.
I am an absolute mess. This cat has been my companion for 11 years… when I was single she moved around with me. I am now married, across country with my 3 year old… through it all. I am scared, I feel super lost and sad and I can’t stop crying thinking about her spending her first night away from home in a cage with an IV. I HOPE TO GOD that it is the form that acts as a “carrier” or that she can fight it off … I just don’t know.
Has anyone ever ever ever been thorugh this? What was the prognosis?
If it was terrible… don’t answer. Or at least don’t be so graphic. I am just so freaking sad. :*( what’s messed up is I don’t even know it’s severity yet. I just cant imagine…

As I posted in a recent question, yesterday I brought home a farm kitten who seems to have some mobility issues (mostly back legs; some weakness in the front too). I thought it might be neurological, and others think it could be hip/leg/spinal damage. Has anyone seen similarities with positively diagnosed FELV cases?
-Obvious leg/mobility issues
-Slightly watery eye/upper respiratory
She’s completely alert and is eating/drinking/already using litter box (and she is isolated from my other cats entirely). She also is from a farm full of cats…none of whom have ever exhibited anything close to what she has. I’m a cat freak, and I pay pretty close attention to what some people refer to as “just farm cats”. To me, they’re all precious little creatures!
Of course, I found her after my vet was closed, but I’m calling my vet in the morning to get her checked (I have a doctor’s appointment for myself, but I’ll be canceling that…we all have our priorities!!). Right now, I’m just panicking, searching for possibilities and maybe just a little reassurance.
I appreciate the answers I got with my previous question, and it gave me some possibilities I hadn’t considered. I’m just wondering if anyone has experience with FELV?
Thanks for any/all input!!
Thank you so much for all of the input! I absolutely am treating her as though she’s got something contagious until proven otherwise by the vet. Everyone is being kept two rooms apart (so no sniffing even under the door), and hands are washed between cats. It’s just making for a VERY long night, waiting to get done with work and then getting her to the vet ASAP! I appreciate all the experiences and info shared!

my cat is about 7 years old & shes both indoor and outdoor, but only goes outside a few times a day.
i know shes gotten in fights with other cats and she recently got in a fight a couple weeks ago when i wasnt home. my grandma who lives next door told me she heard a cat fight.
anyways it seems like lately my cat has been getting alot of “cuts” but i have no idea wat they r from. about a week ago i noticed one under her right ear. about the size of a pinky nail.
i was thinking that maybe she gets nicked by some sticker bushes when shes in the brush in my backyard hunting or “exploring” lol,
but whenever i see these “cuts” shes missing a chunk of hair along with it.
i didnt think it was too serious until last night i noticed a huge chunk of hair missing on her right elbow. no scrapes or scratches, its like a quater-sized chunk of hair was shaved off or something.
i was just looking at her and she has a small scab on the back of her neck, as well as one on the front.
i made her an appointment to see a vet on saturday but in the mean time wat do u think is going on?

I have a 3 month old kitten and a 3 year old cat that were tested for FeLV because they were living with a FeLV + cat for quite some time.
The vet said they are both negative and 99% sure that they are not carriers of the virus (and they’re now vaccinated against it) so does that mean they were not exposed to FeLV in the whole period of time that they were living with the positive cat? Or could they have been exposed and just killed off the virus?
Even though the test was negative and 99% I’m just so paranoid because the kitten is related to the other cat who had FeLV
So basically there is 99% certainty that neither of the cats will ever get FeLV in their lifetime?
I have vaccinated all my other cats against Feline Leukemia and I have thrown out old toys, litter boxes, and food dishes and basically disinfected the entire house

my kitten is 2 months old and we brought him to the vet for a check since he wasnt eating. he is eating now, but the vet said he shouldnt be around my other cat since he hasnt got the felv shot. he seems very healthy since we gave him a bath (he had fleas and scabs) he has no more fleas, but i’m not sure what to do about my other cat playing with him. should we wait until he gets the shot to let them play? i’m making sure they dont use the same litter box or eat from the same bowl… i dont even know if my other cat has the shot.
the kitten seems very healthy now. what to do??
RIGHT NOW WE DONT know whether he has the virus or not..

My cat has been sick lately, and is in getting some tests ran on him right now, I have been doing some research from just what the vet has told me and the symptoms alone things are pointing to FeLV. I know I will get all the answers later today from my vet, but I just wanted to know if anyone had any experience with this. My cat is strictly indoors, and I am unaware how he has gotten this (if it turns out to be FeLV), I adopted him from a Rescue shelter about 7 years ago, so what he did or have prior to that I’m unsure. I don’t know if he tested Negative before, but was acutally positive and it was just dormant in his system. I am praying for the best, but have to research the worst. Any input anyone has would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.
