(a) Chuck him in the bath
(b) Shave him
(c) Use him as a loo brush
I am a cat lover, though am at my wits end and just don’t want to get hairballs by showing by example : How do you get an old cat (10 years old at a guess) to take pride in his personal hygeine ?

My mother-in-law lives across the street from us. She has 2 cats locked in one room together in her finished basement. The cats were her brothers who lived in that room but he passed away 2 years ago. The cats are brothers and they’ve grown up together they are both 4 years old. Shadow is very sweet and lovable but Tuffy is very nasty and scared of everybody (he hisses, scratches and bites.. very vicious).. She has a cat that lives upstairs who is declawed (we rescued him- he was declawed when we found him), so I cannot suggest putting those cats upstairs because he would get hurt by the mean cat. I would love to take them, but we already have a few cats at our house and a dog, and would be scared to bring the mean cat here. The two cats are well-cared for, but they have been locked in this bedroom for 4 years, and they are HUGE(verrrrrrrry fat). I don’t want them to be separated though, but I’m afraid that if I bring them somewhere they will put the mean one to sleep…
Basically, this room is TOO small for both of these cats, they do not get exercise and i feel terrible for them, they are very lonely and do not get much human contact besides when they get fed and I also go over to play with them a couple of times a week..
Any suggestions?
i like Mr.Bojangles idea.. they both love going outside! I let them out once a week also to keep them busy for a couple hours

He was lost for 2 days and I think it could be stress and fear that caused this. Anyone have more information about this? Please list source.

supposed to sleep 18 hours a day…THAT’S THEIR JOB!!
But, it seems my kitty sleeps longer than that. Like he sleeps all night, sleeps all day, was up for about two hours this morning, will be up for an hour or less around my dinner time; will be up for a 1/2 hour or so (because I FORCE him to stay awake and exercise.
See, he’s an indoor cat…and the ONLY exercise he gets on his own is when he scratches his posts on his ‘cat condo’, plays with things I leave hanging for him around the apartment; so when I’m ready to turn out the lights, I get his ‘fishing pole’ and make him JUMP for it (he catches it a lot…& I let it lay there and then YANK it and tease him again! (1/2 hour of that & I’m done!.
Is this enough?…or do I need to do more? I don’t know when I could. I hope it’s enough.
He’s probably awake an hour or two during the night—because sometimes I hear him eating, and he always follows me when I wake up to go potty…and who’s to say how much he plays or runs & jumps, and scratches, eats, uses the litter box, etc. when i’m gone (about 2 – 3 hours a day).

So I’ve been noticing that lately my cat has been vomiting undigested food from time to time. It usually happens once per week or once every two weeks.
He never vomits hairballs, it’s always undigested food.
Could this be from overfeeding, or a possible medical issue?

My cat is about 13 years old, but has always been really healthy, I brush her a lot, so I don’t think it’s hairballs, and I’ve tried controlling how quickly and how much she eats, so I don’t think it’s that either. Any ideas would be appreciated!
