Today my mom and I noticed our cat is acting different. She can’t keep her ears perky, instead they’re sort of flat. picture a gremlin – that’s how her ears are sitting. She keeps shaking her head too, and won’t let anyone touch her ears. A few nights ago and a little bit today she was coughing/sneezing while trying to sleep. Would these be signs of ear mites or something more serious? just looking for opinions before we take her to the vet…

I looked inside my cats ear and he was a dried dark brown substance in his ear.It looks like it has dried to the inside of his ear. I tried to clean it out with a warm washcloth, but it is really stuck to inner walls of the ear. I cleaned his ears the other day, and that was not there. He does not seemed to be bothered by the gunk which leads me to believe it is not ear mites. Any suggestions? I plan on taking him to the vet if it doesn’t get better in the next few days, but I like to have an idea of what it might be so I can ask the doctor questions. Thanks!

My first cat died of kidney failure at about 13 years of age. Now my other cat, who is about 19, also has failing kidneys. We’ve put her on a special no protein diet as advised by our vet.
Since kidney failure is so common among felines, is there anything i can do to try to prevent it from happening to my 4 year old cat? He’s overweight which isn’t a good sign already. I’d like to do some research on this topic so does anyone have sites to get me started?
Thanks so much in advance

I’ve always assumed my parents are “dog people” and growing up asking for a cat they said no because my dogs wouldn’t like it or chase the cat all the time. Well now that I’m away in college my mother decided to get a kitten that needed a home. I was shocked. Mostly because I wasn’t there to help my other pets adjust to this kitten. Plus, I have a lot of friends who have experience owning cats. Well my other dog, Sadie(a sheltie) is indoors most of the time and goes out with my lab when my parents get home. Apparently my mom introduced them the wrong way and not the way the books tell you to do it. Amaya(the kitten) has been constantly hissing at Sadie… according to my mother. Well I’m scared now bc my mom is making it seem like she wants to give away the kitten. I dont want to give up on the cat because my mom has no patience. If I was there this wouldn’t be a big problem. Does anyone have any tips or help on solving this so the two or three of them can co-exist?

I met a girl in the grocery store that was looking for ear mite medicine for a puppy. She had in her hand ear mite treatment for cats. I quickly explained to her that you can’t use cat stuff on dogs let alone a seven week old puppy. She asked where to get some for puppies. I told her you shouldn’t mess around with ear mites. If your dog/puppy has a problem it is your responsibility to have it treated. She said that she doesn’t have the money to take her puppy to the vet. I asked her why she got a puppy if she can’t afford to take care of it. Anyway, I just want to know if there is an over the counter medicine for puppies and would help with ear mites. Any help is appreciated.
